Very Silly Sentences
Updated: Nov 25, 2020
Looking for a good language arts game that teaches sentence structure, parts of speech, and encourages reading in a silly way? Try Very Silly Sentences! Players take turns rolling the die. If you roll a part of speech, they take a corresponding tile from the game board and put it in the correct spot on their player mat. They are color coded to help. If you roll a number, move that many spaces around the outer track. There are spinner spaces, pick any card spaces, and roll again spaces. There are 3 levels of play, depending upon the age and skill level of each individual participant. I love that they don't all have to be playing at the same level.
The children read the words as they draw them and then once both of their sentences are complete, they read the sentences. First person to complete and read both sentences wins. Once somebody has won, let the other players draw all the tiles they still need and have them each read their sentences as well. Bonus points can go to the player with the silliest sentence. Very Silly Sentences is a fun introduction to the parts of speech and how fun writing and reading can be. You can purchase a copy here.
